Nick Vidal

Nick Vidal, who hails from Bakersfield, California, is a member of the iconic DJ/radio group known as the Baka Boyz. Nick and Eric Vidal created hip-hop personality radio together and achieved #1 ratings across the country. The careers of Black Eyed Peas, Wu-Tang Clan, Snoop Dogg, Warren G, and Pitbull have been launched thanks to Nick’s sharp eye for talent.  According to Snoop Dogg, Nick gave him his stamp of approval in Los Angeles. Nick’s experience working in the studio has resulted in him producing classics for a wide range of artists, such as Yo Yo, House Of Pain, The Offspring, and John Legend. Nick’s passion for music began as a teenager, and he turned that passion into a career in radio.

Nick began his radio career as the weekend talent for 1350 AM a small local station. Nick and Eric had to hustle to keep their show running, selling advertising to businesses door to door
Door. The two landed a weekend slot at Bakersfield’s KKXX FM after demonstrating their natural ability for DJing, which earned them their first FM position. ‘Friday Nite Flavas’ was created by the Baka Boyz at Power 106 in 1992, where they made their mark on Los Angeles radio. Young and emerging hip-hop artists were drawn to this signature specialty program. Their talent was quickly discovered by Rick Cummings of Emmis Broadcasting and they were soon promoted to the prestigious morning show position. Their passion for originality and talent led to the creation of both live mixing on Los Angeles radio and the creation of ‘The World Famous Roll Call’.

For seven years, they dominated the afternoon ratings and the coveted morning show slot at Power. The duo then headed to the rival L.A. radio station KKBT The Beat, their continued success hosting afternoons. The Baka Boyz aimed to expand by setting their sights north and waking up listeners every morning at KMEL in San Francisco. They once again dominated the airwaves by becoming the top morning show in the Bay Area. Their act proved to be a true national phenomenon, as they went east in 2003 and became the morning show hosts of Clear Channel’s WMIB in Miami, proving that their act is a true national phenomenon. In addition to receiving a lifetime achievement award in urban radio, they were recognized as Radio Personality of the Year for three years in a row.

They knew that their programming formula was a national phenomenon, so they teamed up with Gary Bernstein to develop their syndicated ‘Hip Hop Master Mix’. Compass Media Networks has made this award-winning program available on over fifty stations across the country and internationally in China, Italy, and Canada. The format has expanded to include Top 40, Classic Hip-Hop/Throwback, and its signature Hip-Hop version. Over 2.5 million listeners are reached by the Baka Boyz every week, and they are also the owners of the most successful mix show in contemporary radio history.

Frustrated with the current sound of daily radio, Nick and Eric recently launched the Baka Boyzdai/y and the results have been huge in markets ranging from Phoenix to Los Angeles and even Elmira, NY. After marrying Melissa, Nick is currently building the House of Sueno and lighting candles under the full moon. He is the father of four beautiful girls aged 20-32. Nick has a passion for cooking, entrepreneurship, and playing his vast collection of authentic Native American flutes.

Eric Vidal

Eric Vidal (aka Eric V.) is from Bakersfield, California and is part of the well-known DJ/radio duo called the Baka Boyz. Eric’s love for music has led him to become a legendary radio DJ, while still maintaining his status as one of the most recognized and well-rounded DJs in the U.S. Eric’s fame stems from his flawless mixes and imaginative blends, as well as his ability to pick the hits.

Eric’s vast knowledge and appreciation for various music genres has led him to play everything from Hip-Hop, R&B, Alternative, House, Indie Rock, and Electro. The path for many fellow DJs has been paved by his talent and passion for originality, including the beginning of live mixing during on-air FM radio shows.

Eric and his brother Nick were the ones who created the most successful radio mix program in contemporary radio history. Despite breaking barriers with his consummate dedication and unique style, he remains true to his craft. Baka Boyz Hip Hop Mastennix, which has won multiple awards, is now 20+ years old and still thriving, extending to three different formats (Top 40, Classic Hip-Hop/Throwback, Hip-Hop).  The Syndicated show is accessible in 65 markets nationwide and internationally in Canada, China, and Italy, with a reach of over 2 million listeners.
